From formulation to scale-up to process development,
HRC has the expertise to provide the best path forward
for overcoming your challenges.

With 100 years of combined experience, we have the knowhow to optimize your formulations in a cost-effective manner.

Scale up

Our chemists and chemical engineers are well versed in bringing new formulations from the benchtop to the production floor.

Process development

Our chemical engineers have extensive experience designing efficient processes with every detail in mind.

Dr. Gary Huvard
President, Chemical Engineer

Dr. Gary S. Huvard founded Huvard Research and Consulting, Inc. in 1989. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry (Campbell College, 1974) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (NC State University, 1979). He has extensive industrial experience with 11 years in technical positions with BFGoodrich and DuPont. He spent 10 years in private practice and consulted for more than 40 companies in the U.S. and Europe before joining the faculty of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in January 1999. He retired from VCU in May 2008 to devote himself full-time to work at TheLab. Dr. Huvard is a recognized expert in the field of diffusion in polymers and devolatilization, so TheLab is fully equipped to measure gas and vapor transport properties in polymers.

Dr. Huvard co-developed and taught U.S. and European offerings of industrial short courses on Polymer Reactor Engineering, Batch Process Engineering, and Polymer Devolatilization for 13 years during the 1980s and early 1990s. He is a past advisor for the VCU Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and he founded and advised the only undergraduate engineering consulting firm in the U.S. (ChemEngine) until August 2007. He is a Fellow of the ASEE National Effective Teaching Institute and a member of AIChE and ACS. He co-authored the Student Workbook to accompany Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes with R.M. Felder in 2005. The workbook is used by chemical engineering students all over the world in their material and energy balance courses. He has co-authored a dozen peer-reviewed papers, two book chapters, and holds seven U.S. patents.
